I made this specifically for a certain friend that currently only draws highly stylized equines from a certain beloved girls' cartoon but it's something shareable, I think. Originally, it was three sheets of cardstock with a bunch of scribbles and bad handwriting. I think this is much easier to look at.

The idea behind this was to break everything down to the simplest instructions. It's not detailed because it's not supposed to be; I wanted the information as easy to absorb as possible. There are no diagrams of muscle structures or joint angles or any of that. You can reference them if you want; in fact, many people find it helpful for figuring out the shapes of things. I just haven't included it. However, I do intend to make a series that focus on different parts in more detail, like hands and faces and whatever people think they want me to talk about.

A note about the heads-high diagrams:
The diagrams displayed assume that all heads are the same size to make the head ratio comparisons easier to understand. However, not everyone has the same head size, especially children. A child five heads high will not reach the shoulders of a six-heads-high adult because child heads are much smaller than adult heads. However, that's something you'd need to study elsewhere because I'm not going into detail here. I will say that, realistically, older children (middle school and up) are closer to five and six heads high and younger ones (elementary to middle school) are in the four-to-five head range. Many manga styles skew this ratio because bigger heads look better in their style; mine is one of those. Working out the heights and ages of the characters should help you figure out relative sizes.

There are some errors in here, more notably dealing with the torso and stemming from me typing the wrong words by mistake. They'll be fixed when I get the time.

I hope this helps someone. If not, well maybe my weirdly contorted doodle will at least amuse you.
By the way, that generic-looking fellow on the cover is a ladyfellow. And the scribble at the closing statement in no way resembles myself. I just thought loopy hair was appropriate at the moment.

You're welcome. Do you, perhaps, know of any tutorials that can help with angles and the likes? Shoulders are tough, huh...

Tutorials, I don't know, but anatomy references can be good for this kind of thing.

Here is an assortment of human arm references (shoulders included). There are more you might find on that blog (many of which likely include nudity; here's your warning).
Shoulders are tricky, especially at the joint, but hopefully those pictures can help.

You have no idea how this is saving my behind, man. Today is soooo stressful. Now I finally got back home late at night after a huge emotional roller coaster, and I have to do a huge drawing project that's due tomorrow that completely sprang up on me. I was just so overwhelmed by everything, that I actually forgot how to draw. (The techniques and all.) This simple and straightforward tutorial really helped me get my bearings again.

Well, I'm still lacking anatomy. Namely the kind of anatomy that allows normal people to draw faces with variation. Also make them not look half-anime.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with anime. Most of my art looks pretty anime and I rather like it.

Now if you're concerned about the chins, try rounding them out on the bottom and adjusting the jawlines.
